After absence for almost 2 years, Fighting Stage article is back!
Yes, i will babble about anything (hopefully) funny or interesting in the
places where fighters strike each other to knock out. Let's go!
War After - Asura Blade (Arcade)
I fought Curfue and Alice in this abandoned battlefield. Not only
it's fit for fierce fight but also gorgeous. Skeletons of fallen warriors,
weapons that scattered around, and worn-out siege machine. This place is truly
beautiful. Also there's huge blue moon on the back. Don't forget that too.
There's one detail that pique my interest: that one skeleton under
rock. Maybe he was in dying breath and take cover so he can live the other day.
He though he can escape death but no, he's dead and worse he become subject of
my snarky remark which is definitely not good thing happen on your demise.
Arashi's
Stage - Blood Warrior (Arcade)
Yes, this one is also from my previous walkthrough but whatever. You
surely know about Sagat's stage with sleeping giant Buddha statue and this
place is lots better than that. There's broken statue of (presumably) Asura,
bamboo forest , Japanese sacred gate/Torii, and the most important is 2 Maneki
Neko statue on both corner. They can be destroyed but don't let that happen,
okay?
Green Area -
Fighting Master (Genesis)
I can use screenshot of my playthrough but i don't want to be
called slacker, at least not total ones. So i play the game as Dio this time. What
interest me much is -of course- the tree on each corner, their root is in form
of human toe complete with toenail and there's human face on it. Just look at
it inside the red circle! It's subtle to the eye of younger-me but now i see it
very clear. Quite creepy.

The trees also have branch with sharp fingernail. Beside those creepy element.
This place is beautiful with green mountains and calming blue river. It's place
is perfect for picnic. Almost.
Stage 1 - Mutant
Fighter (Arcade)
I didn't say i will only cover 2D stage. So i include this side-scrolling stage
from wrestling game. Fighting genre can include wrestling, you see. There's
large grey warrior statue on both corner and they are quite majestic. The
crowds consist of fantasy medieval bunch like hooded mage, metal clad bloke,
and shirtless bloke with horned helmet. Speaking of that barbarian/viking type,
my opponent happen to be like that. That means i'm playing as that swarthy
creature. That's minotaur.
By the way Fighting Master isn't wrestling game. It's fighting
game that reliable mean to damage other is grapple, with simple button input
and without mashing button to win the grappling procedure.
At the center of arena, there's painting of big lion symbol with 2
color pattern on background. It's typical European kingdom's symbol but very
cool nonetheless.
Away from the arena is lush green
with some building and castle. Very beautiful view especially if you ignore
Hercules is doing big throw on me. Just pretend you don't see us like at all.
Stage 3 - Mutant
Fighter (Arcade)
This time the crowds are red orcs and minotaurs besides the humans.
On both corner there's torch golden minotaur statue. Torch statue in water area
seems serve no purpose. Whoever come up with this idea, is bloody...genius! It
looks freaking fantastic. I mean it! Also grey brick building with vast water
area reminds me of Doom 2's Inmost Den map.
On the top center, you can see the starting point of waterfall and
building's top.
On the arena there's hydraulic-powered cylinders that can throw
anyone who touch them to the sky. Reminds me of Deception 3's smash floor
floor-trap. That means good to me.
Treetop - Weapon
Lord (Genesis)
The battle takes place in a tree with safety net. It not only can
withstands 2 fighters fight on it but also can't be severed when sword plants
into it. You don't trust me? Here's the proof.
The sword is implanted to the "ground" about 40% yet the
arena isn't torn apart. On the background, we can see massive trees and on
center there's 2 giant water fountain and rock hill. This is another place with
beautiful panorama.
Jeffry's
Stage - Virtua Fighter 2 (Genesis)
There's no interesting point here except some palm tree and that
villa/cottage. If you can see far enough, you'll see seaside and sandy beach
while on "inner" side we have vast green plain. It's not
geographically impossible but just boring to me. To be honest playing Weapon
Lord and Virtua Fighter 2 feel tedious and jarring in gameplay mechanic, even
only for scenery searching. Thus i decided to play the legendary fighting game
that has more finesse in gameplay and everbody know and loved...
Dhalsim's
India Stage - Street Fighter 2 - The World Warrior (Arcade)
That's right! It's Street Fighter 2! Although in this case, we
fight in elephant pen or perhaps temple of elephants. Certainly not some street
in India. Luckily, this place is clean from
elephant's droppings. Thanks for your hard work, Dhalsim! And maybe anyone
else who's tasked for sanitary job here. Your reward: you can spare with Ryu
with utmost seriousness and determination!
Until you're knocked out that is. I will tell the owner of this
place that you need to take some sick leave for several days. There's spitting
pot on each side so i can assume the elephants can take care of their small
sanitary problem, which means good. Is that picture on center supposed to be Ganesha,
the Hindu deity? If yes, then he lacks 2 more arms. I know that, thanks for
being a student in Bandung Institute of Technology (that has Ganesha symbol)
twice.
Chun-Li's
China Stage - Street Fighter 2 - The World Warrior (Arcade)
Now this is real street fight, like in the middle of the road!
Shop on right is definitely meat shop. I take pity on that upside down chicken
because it remains in that state until the fight ends then it will get chopped.
Shop on left is i can only guess is some general shop that i assume sells boxes
of Coca Cola™. I mean like what else trademark that have symbol of solid red
with curvy white line like that besides Coca Cola™? And don't forget about
Rocky in foreground!
Well, there's another Rocky. Hi! On right side there's barbershop
with open window, a guy with straw hat and bicycle, and a lady wash her
laundry. As you may know that, bicycle rider will pass on occasion. This bloke
looks happy that Ryu won because he also wear fashion of red and white.
Now that's bit too much. Eyes on
road, guys! Otherwise you will get series traffic accident.
On the opposite case, this bald
guy ignores a policewoman lies unconsciously on road. Either, he has good
traffic discipline or he just careless guy. Whatever the case, Ryu ignores him
too, so it's fair trade.
That's it for the article about some fighting
stages. Most of them are view with beautiful blue sky that could be in the same
level with the famous Window XP wallpaper.=p
